ALEXANDER: ‘WE LACKED QUALITY’

Graham Alexander admitted his side lacked quality following tonight’s defeat to Notts County at the University of Bradford Stadium.

City started the brighter of the two sides but could not make their pressure pay as the Magpies broke the deadlock 12 minutes in, and went on to net another two goals.

“We could not find the quality tonight,” Alexander said.

“We wanted to make up for the last game. We were lacking in the goals department, and that has probably been the case all season.

“We have to improve on that. We have to look at ourselves and improve on our attacking output.”

Despite his frustration, the Bantams boss praised the effort and commitment of his players, making the fact they left the game empty handed all the more difficult to take.

“It was frustrating, not for a lack of effort or commitment, it was just that final touch. In that final third, we just did not take our chances.

“We started to gamble at times, against a side that does not need any encouragement to score goals.

“Their attacking threat is there, but we can do better on our behalf. Today, we were punished by good players.”

The City chief feels his side have lost their defensive discipline over the past few games, but insists they need to push past the recent disappointment, to end their season as strongly as possible.

City visit Harrogate Town on Saturday, in a game where Alexander is looking for a winning response from his players.

“Over the last few games, we lost our discipline,” he added.

“We currently have an imbalance in the squad. Bar the last few games, we have been good with our defensive record, but scoring goals has been an issue.

“We have to continue to push until the end of the season, end the season in a good manner and see what that brings us.

“Last time we played away, we had a good victory. We need to learn from tonight and improve on our disappointment.

“We can get out of this rut if we continue to push through. I want my players to continue to keep showing the right effort, and showing the right commitment.

“We have shown good patches of form, and we can get back to that. On Saturday, we have another opportunity and we have to take it.”
