DEFEAT ON THE ROAD

23 March 2024

City suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Harrogate Town as they made the trip to the EnviroVent Stadium in Sky Bet League Two.

Harrogate went into the break with the lead after a 21st-minute header from Josh March, despite some good early play from City.

Two goals in the second half, a penalty and an own goal, would mean defeat for City in North Yorkshire.

City made a bright start in Harrogate, enjoying a lot of early possession, as Oyegoke saw an effort flash wide early on.

It was the hosts however who took the lead in the 21st minute, as Josh March converted Warren Burrell's cross with a bullet header past Sam Walker.

Tyriek Wright had a good chance for City as he managed to get a toe on a bouncing ball, after Kevin McDonald's initial effort was blocked, but his effort was well saved by James Belshaw.

Harrgote went close to doubing their lead during nine minutes of first-half stoppage time, as Matty Daly smashed a bouncing half-volley against the post.

City struggled to get going after the break, and in the 71st minute Simon Weaver's side were awarded a penalty after a handball by Brad Halliday.

George Thomson stepped up and converted the spot-kick.

Harrogate had a third less than 10 minutes later, to compound defeat for City, as Daniel Oyegoke - in his attempts to clear Jack Muldoon's cross - turned the ball into his own net.
